Message from the Principal
Welcome back. I wish to thank the parents of year 9 students that attended the Subject evening which was held on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The high turnout was very pleasing and I am grateful for the support and care you show in your son/daughters progress academically.

Following feedback from the Year 10 evening, we extended the number of rooms in use to make the conversations more private and less congested.  I understand some parents were frustrated with the cancellation of some bookings, however, we are vulnerable to staff becoming ill and unfortunately we had a few staff that could not attend.

At the heart of the relationship that exists between the school and its parents is the understanding we both have the long term interests of your child/children in common.  We aim to praise as much as we can, and there is room for improvement here.  Hence the reason that I have placed the act of acknowledging positivity onto the school’s improvement plan. However, when children get things wrong they learn from it but also realise there is a consequence. When we have to impose a sanction we do not relish this; it is not our style to make children unhappy but it will be necessary and we expect that we are supported.

I look forward to your support during the course of this exciting new year in which I hope to share many positive and exciting changes ahead, which enable the school to grow from strength to strength.

Best wishes

Wellbeing
Last half term we decided we wanted to raise money for more seating for students around the school.

With this idea in mind, the Well-being Team decided that they would like to hold a Christmas stall. We sold arts and crafts made by school students from the lunchtime craft club including Christmas cards, tree decorations and  jewellery, cakes/biscuits and on some days even milkshakes.  We would like to say thank you to the students and staff who purchased items and enabled us to raise an incredible £170! A massive thank you to all the students in the Well-being Team who helped to run the stall, their commitment and dedication has impressed us all.

Maths
We are now well into 2019 and the academic year seems to be disappearing rapidly.

The exams in the summer are stretched over a much wider period of time so planning their revision should be easier. Every week I will be sending out resources students can start using at home called the final countdown, this may seem premature but there are only 64 teaching days to the first summer exam and revising gradually is much more effective. Using the countdown alongside the PiXL Maths app and other revision resources will really make the difference to closing the gap on areas students still have issues with. Please find attached week 2 of the extra questions students can do at home with the support of parents, as mark schemes and examiners reports are also attached. Every week I will continue to attach five topics that regularly appear on examinations. Students can also use their individualised PLCs on the PiXL Maths app to target areas of weakness, using the video tutorials and Power Points to help students understand topics.

Revision guides are also available in school at cost price, saving you more than 50% on the rrp. There are 3 books at £2.50 each and an answer book for £1. Please see your class teacher, Miss Harvey, or Mr Donnelly if you have paid for them through Parent Pay.

The final PPE exams will start on the 11th March which is only 35 teaching days away!
