Message from the Principal
Dear all If you will allow me to indulge for a moment..... I have spent my week doing many things that are child centred and school improvement based, but still felt a sense of emptiness.

I feel a galaxy, or two, away from my previous daily interaction with students and staff. Usually the paper work, the meetings, etc etc, will be punctuated with a number of wonderful conversations with students or members of staff that lift my spirits; it keeps me on track to focus on school improvement or helps me learn about what I do not know.  We all miss this.

Now that students and staff are not fully in school, there is a real sense of yearning for a return to school but only when it is safe do so and assurances can be put into place. We hold onto the virtual meetings that I and many others take part in on a daily basis. This includes working with staff and the student council.  This gives us all a lift and a reminder we are still a community; we still need to plan for whatever a normal return is and we will do this together.

This week’s bulletin pays homage to the students work produced. Equally, I wish to thank staff and parents/carers for their forbearance in this difficult time. Home learning is not easy and I hope our recent guidance, that will be re-published in the next few days in many formats, will help you.

Best wishes

Year 8
Hi Year 8 Hope you are all keeping well and safe!!

Amongst these uncertain times please take time to access connect and complete the work that is set for you. Additionally, look out for my emails on tutor based activities.

You can also access the school Facebook page and there are plenty of challenges on there to participate in.

The most daunting challenge I face is structure and how to plan my day! So here are a few tips;

  • Get up at a decent time.
  • Have breakfast.
  • Start school work from Connect for 45 minutes and then have a break for 15 minutes, but do not stress.
  • Exercise regularly each day.
  • Create ... you know you all like a little TikTok !!
  • Complete more Connect work.
  • Relax.

You should all have received your pathways information via email. I hope you’ve all had a good read. Remember to choose your subjects based on what you are good at and what you enjoy, NOT.....what your friends are choosing. If you have any problems there is contact information on the pathways letter. Please, please , please have all the pathways forms completed by Thursday 7 May.

Please do not stress about work deadlines, or whether you can or cannot access lessons given. Work at the pace you are most comfortable with, stay safe and we will see you soon!

English Spring Poetry Competition
We recently held a competition for students to write a poem inspired by spring.

There were over 145 entries and it was a joy to read all of the work submitted. Mr Billson and I spent lots of time reading and discussing which were our favourite poems based on how well students had organised their poem, used a range of poetic techniques and reflected on the current season. It was not an easy decision at all with so many to choose from but we finally picked a winner from each Year group (7-11).  The winners will receive a £10 Amazon gift card!

  • Year 7 - Lauren Agyeman - 'It looks like it is spring again'
  • Year 8 - Amelia Demkiewicz - 'Spring'
  • Year 9 - Anna Taylor-Koers - 'Spring Poem'
  • Year 10 - Abigail Franks - 'The Glade'
  • Year 11 - Netania Wogan - 'Worship'

Well done and a big thank you to those students who entered but were not chosen for a prize this time, without you there would be no competition.

I hope you enjoy reading the winning entries.
