Message from the Principal
Welcome back!
Thank you to the parents and students that attended our Year 7 Tutor Evening. The feedback is so vital and we welcome it to make ongoing improvements to our school. Thank you for taking the time to do this and for passing on your positive comments. This week we have officially launched our Head Girl and Head Boy in each year group. Students have completed application forms, gained references, been interviewed and in some cases even performed assemblies to their peers in order to gain this prestigious position. The names of the Head Boy and Girl are as follows: Year 7 Year 8 P16 Post16 Opportunities Evening The facts speak for themselves, we are in the top 10-15% of sixth forms in the country. Why would you send your child to another centre? I urge you and your son/daughter to attend on Tuesday evening to ensure they are in the best position to make the most informed decision about their next steps into sixth form education or apprenticeships. Bryan Erwin Whipsnade Zoo
This week year 9 students were rewarded for all their hard work and excellent behaviour in their Zoo life transition to GCSE projects with a trip to Whipsnade Zoo. Students had a lovely time getting up close to the animals, learning key facts and using their new knowledge of enclosure designs and animal well being to evaluate the zoo life. Many asked to bring home pygmy goats, penguins and even a lion for school pets......but all we ended up with was fluffy cuddly toys from the gift shop! Well done to year 9 for a very successful trip! Mrs N Chalmers Student of the week - Year 7
What a fabulous assembly the year 7's had on Wednesday about fireworks. It was about how they are made and what firework night is all about. We invited the parents of the tutor group in to see their child perform, which they really enjoyed. Well done to all year 7’s who received student of the week for lots of different reasons. These included helping others out in the community, being kind and considerate to others, overcoming obstacles in lessons and trying extra hard around the school. Keep up the excellent work. Please note the Bushcraft closing date is Friday 5 November. We still have places available to book for students to enjoy all that can be learnt on the residential trip next June. Mrs C Read The Food Department needs your help
Have you got any old plates that you no longer need or cookery books just collecting dust? Our food department would be grateful of any donations to help our students achieve great things in food. Cookery books have been invaluable to our yr9 students as they research different cuisines for their upcoming pop-up restaurant (more details to follow) and we would love to grow our collection to help even more students. We are short on plates and bowls for these pop-up restaurants as well as for our yr10 students to practise their plating and presentation skills in preparation for their final assessment. Whether it be just one plate or one book we would be so grateful. Every little helps in improving the students food skills and knowledge. Please drop items off at reception. Thank you in advance.
Miss J Brooks Year 11 Netball
Wednesday marked the first game of the season for the year 11 girls, facing Stanground Academy in the league. The girls warmed up whilst waiting for the away team to arrive, nerves were apparent, but they were looking strong so didn’t need to worry. Elise won the toss and opted to choose the way Ken Stimpson were shooting (wisely deciding the direction Mrs Purdy, Mr Whales and Mr Bradley were sitting for some strong encouragement). The whistle went for the first centre pass and the girls meant business, breaking down Stanground’s attack and swiftly moving the ball into our shooting circle, managing to finish the first quarter on a comfortable 3 – 1 lead. Stanground made some changes, as did we, but they clearly had height on their side in their attacking third, resulting in them taking the win 13 – 6. The girls played amazingly with a lot of fast, accurate passing, as well as numerous turnovers and I am very proud of them. Bring on the rest of the league!
