Message from the Principal

Curriculum Day number 1: September 30

We held the first of our ‘collapsed’ days to enable a wider curriculum enrichment to take place for all of our students.  The day comprised of a wide range of new learning experiences which included interform sports, exploring British values through  Art, Maths and Science GCSE preparation and University visits.

I believe the photographs taken on the day really capture the essence of the cultural enrichment that we want our students to experience.  There will be a series of other days calendared and Mr Whales will communicate the themes in due course.

ThisisNamaste
Students from Y8 to Y11 were treated to a performance from Solo artist "ThisisNamaste", as part of the curriculum day.

Along with performing some of her work, Natasha spoke to students about the importance of education, resilience and encouraged students to start thinking about their future career options. Natasha openly spoke of her own mental health struggles, talking with warmth and understanding. She encouraged students to be honest and if things are not ok, that's ok, but reach out and talk to someone.

Biology Sampling Trip
On Monday 23 September, seven students from Y12 and Y13 Biology visited Hunstanton beach to learn sampling techniques for their A Level course.

They enjoyed a beautiful sunny morning working in the sand dunes, followed by the afternoon in the Sea Life Centre. Their visit included a guided tour by a very knowledgeable Zoologist, who let them handle reptiles, discussed environmental issues and conservation work, talked about advances in zoological and medical research, and offered careers advice.

This was a fantastic experience, sweetened by some doughnuts by the sea and a cheeky chip lunch! Our students were brilliant as usual and a real credit to the school.

Thorpe Park Business Studies Year 11 and Post 16 Visit - Friday 27 September 2019
Last Friday we took 64 Business Studies students to Thorpe Park.

The students had the morning and early afternoon to enjoy the Thorpe Park rides.  Some of the students were very organised and had downloaded the Thorpe Park App, to plan their route and hence ensuring that they managed to get on most of the rides!

In the afternoon, the Post 16 students collected data for their coursework portfolios.  The Year 11 students attended a seminar on the "Marketing Mix" of Thorpe Park, which is the topic area that is being taught in Year 11 GCSE Business Studies lessons this half term.

The students were a credit to all at KSCS and were a pleasure for me, Mr Abbott and Mr McCall to take on this visit.

Year 7 Boys Rugby
The year 7 boys took part in their first rugby tournament at Hampton College.

The boys have only had 3 contact sessions in total, but you wouldn't have thought that, having seen them fly into tackles. Overall the boys won one against Hampton Gardens, drew one against Stanground and lost one against Hampton College.

I am so proud of the boys and how they represented the school. Star performers were Jack Bedwell with some great solo tries and Harry Taylor with some monster tackles.

Year 7 Student of the Week
Well done to the year 7's who received 'Student of the Week' from Ms Read, Mrs Purdy and their tutors. This was for many reasons such as being kind, respectful and helping out others etc.

Ken Stimpson welcomes Peterborough Soup Kitchen
Year 9 and Year 10 BTEC Learning for Life students welcomed Kevin Dawson from Peterborough Soup Kitchen as part of their project on homelessness and how to be good citizens.

Kevin spoke with the groups about the work of the Soup Kitchen with homeless and disadvantaged people in our area. Students asked lots of questions so they could have a clear idea about how they can support the Soup Kitchen. The BTEC students will soon present their findings to year 7 students to raise awareness about the issues homeless and disadvantaged people face. They are also brainstorming enterprise ideas to fundraise for the Soup Kitchen; this will involve working as a team to create products to make and sell.

Kevin has also given students the opportunity to work behind the scenes preparing food in the professional kitchen, which will then be served from their van to those who are in need.

We look forward to working in partnership with Peterborough Soup Kitchen.
