Ken Stimpson Community School - Newsletter 20/09/2019
KSCS Newsletter September 20th 2019

Message from the Principal
Just over two weeks ago we welcomed back both staff and students.

Since then we have seen the implementation of the new uniform policy, a new pastoral system, new facilities and standards.  More importantly we have welcomed our new Year 7 students and pupils from other city wide schools into our very successful and expanding Sixth Form centre.

The last two weeks have flown by and have been action packed, which I hope you will appreciate from the articles below.  They show a relentless commitment to the quality of education, cultural enrichment and pastoral care behind the scenes, which all enable your child to be successful.

As a school we need to ensure that we continuously improve, where its fair and within our means to do so. To this end we value your feedback and with this in mind, I would encourage you as a parent/carer to complete our parent satisfaction survey. All responses will be strictly anonymous.  The deadline for the survey is 27 September.

Thank you in anticipation of your support in this matter.

To access the survey, please click here

Best wishes

Science Club
Wednesday saw the start of the weekly year 7 and 8 Science club!

Students joined together to work on Bunsen burner skills and flame tests in which they lit many  'unknown' chemical samples and matched the colours produced to identify them!! Tricky stuff!

The students, after a clean up, celebrated their science success by heating marshmallows on a Bunsen burner for smores!!

Any Year 7 or 8 students interested in joining, please come along every Wednesday at 3.20-4.20pm in room 1L01.

Tutor time reading
To support our Year 7 and 8 students enjoyment of reading and to increase their vocabulary and literacy skills further, the school has invested in a tutor time reading programme.

Years 7 and 8 will be reading twice a week during tutor times and will have a rotation of four books.

We will keep you updated on the progress of this initiative.

Please see the attached Powerpoint for further information

The European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages is celebrated every year on 26 September.

The aims of the European Day of Languages include:

  • To celebrate the diversity of languages and cultures within Europe.
  • To encourage language learning at any age.
  • To promote intercultural understanding.
  • To diversify the range of languages learnt.

The European Day of Languages is celebrated throughout Europe with a range of events and activities.

This week students will be celebrating the European Day of Languages in school with a variety of activities, including a tutor group competition where students guess the language based on an audio clip, as well as the chance to enter a T-shirt design competition to promote next year’s event.

There are lots of further activities and information on the EDL website https://edl.ecml.at/ and we would encourage students and their families to get involved in celebrating this occasion and promoting languages together.

Ken Stimpson - A High Quality provider of Music Education.
I was thrilled this week to receive the Music Mark award for providing a consistently high quality standard of Music Education.

This is the third consecutive year we have been awarded the mark. It is testament to all of our students and staff who make working in the Music department at KSCS pleasurable.

Thank you to everyone.
