Ken Stimpson Community School - Newsletter 15/07/2016
KSCS Newsletter July 15th 2016

Message from the Principal
It has been another exhilarating week as we approach the end of the summer term.
Early indications are that we are set for fine weather for next week’s annual Sports Day.

We strongly advise students to bring water bottles, clothes and accessories that will protect them from the sun and sunscreen. Students may also bring a small amount of cash into school to use at the ice cream truck and BBQ.

Mr Hughes and his team have prepared an excellent range of activities for the day with plenty of established favourites along with one or two new events to keep everybody fully involved.  Some events have taken place and the scores have already been recorded.  Which House will win it all next Tuesday?

Stimpson Shout!

This time next week we will be sending out copies of the Summer Edition 2016.  I have enjoyed a sneak preview and am sure that you will be impressed by this high quality school magazine.

Best wishes

The A.B.R team’s Final Trip to ARM
On our most recent & final trip to ARM we first given a tour of their high tech data centre. Nestled in between ARM’s technology buildings in Cambridge we were told about all the fail-safes that they use and how the centre runs. From the ground it was built on, up to the doors themselves the entire centre had been designed with incredible purpose. The hum of the computers inside the centre and heat generated from the machines was the most surprising.

Afterwards we showed our small presentation to ARM engineers about our modified goals and how we will achieve them for the showcase. Finally, we were able to talk with the ARM engineers about how we can improve our designs and how we could make it simple for people to understand which was really useful for our understanding as well. This was our last trip to ARM but everyone enjoyed it and we left with a much better understanding of what to do next for the microprocessor coming out to the streets of Peterborough soon. Watch this space!

The Fizz Control Team get awarded.
Both Science and success were smelling sweet in KSCS this week as our Fizz Control Team boys were recognised by the Governors for their efforts.

Jaydon Cox, Richard Coric and Ashley Stedman were the team representing KSCS at the Birmingham Scrub up on Science Competition. They designed a bath bomb that showed the judges creativity, strong scientific thinking and overall a relaxing fragrance.

The Bath Bomb team.jpg

To quote the team “we’d never actually made it before!”, but despite being novices in the bath bomb business the team came joint 2nd out of 200 entrants. A pure example of how simply trying can lead to success.

Attendance
Success is still in first position. All Houses have had a decrease in attendance last week so the race is still on. You can help by coming in every day during these last 2 weeks. Keep those bugs at bay as EVERY DAY COUNTS!
