You will be aware that industrial action is being taken by the NUT on Tuesday 5 July. However, Ken Stimpson Community School will be open as usual on that day.
Year 11 Prom With the final preparations in place, the Year 11 Prom is now only a matter of days away. I look forward to the red carpet welcome for the partygoers at the event, their stunning arrivals in a range of vehicles and to seeing our students celebrate together in style. Photos of the Prom will be shared on our Facebook page next week. Best wishes
Richard Lord An early boost to Year 9 into 10 achievement: European Computer Driving License (ECDL)
Over the course of this half-term the Computing Faculty gave two cohorts of Year 9 students the chance to achieve a GCSE qualification before moving into Year 10 lessons by completing the ECDL. This was completed over 3 days of intensive sessions where students were based in an ICT classroom and worked through the online modules developing their skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Improving Productivity in IT.
The group achieved great success with 93% of the students securing an A or A* grade, enabling them to begin studies in Year 10 with their first GCSE grade already secure. All of the students expressed that the experience was very positive and below are some quotes taken from student feedback on the course: “I now have a qualification to put down on my CV before I even start Year 10!”
“I learnt new things that I didn't know before and probably would've ever known if not for doing ECDL. I discovered that I could achieve an A* if I put my mind to it and it has given me a boost in confidence, which I needed.”
This opportunity is going to be offered to other students in the same Year group in the form of an ECDL focus days on the final week of the Summer holiday. Letters will be sent home shortly. This time of year always puts a smile on my face as SHINE (Support and Help in Education) reveal the inspiring winners of their Let Teachers SHINE competition.
The competition is focused on bringing brilliant ideas to fruition by developing projects to support disadvantaged young people across the country in English, maths and science. We are proud to be supporting the competition for the third year and were delighted to assist in the process of whittling down 125 applicants to ten winning projects. With a vast range of wonderful ideas to support disadvantaged young people, it’s fascinating to see the creative minds of teachers from all across England. The funding to bring the 2016 winner’s ideas to life reached a grand total of £112,000. The money they receive will be used to get their project off the ground by funding a year-long pilot programme to demonstrate that it can achieve measureable improvements in the classroom. The winners are… Suraj Rai from Ken Stimpson Community School in Peterborough has devised ‘Created by Schools’ to help children in all three of the core subjects. Disadvantaged students will work together with professionals to build English, maths and science resources for schools using an online request queue, which is open to teachers everywhere. We’re pleased to welcome all of this year’s winners to the SIMS Annual Conference in Staffordshire, where they will be awarded their cheques. It’s also a pleasure to have 2015 winner Gavin Summerfield attending the conference to talk about his innovative project, which encourages children to be creative using Nao Robotics technology. I certainly can’t wait to see some of these projects in action and hopefully, we will be seeing some of this year’s cohort presenting back to us at our 2017 conference on their inspiring projects. Year 11 Graduation Day
Wow, Amazing, Stunning! These were the three words I used to describe how smartly dressed and mature the students presented themselves at the Year 11 Graduation Day held on Tuesday morning.
Mr Lord, Mrs Holland and the Heads of House acknowledged the graduation and subject achievements of all the students that attended the event. There were prizes given out for high attendance and the lucky students were drawn from a prize draw. Congratulations to Sam Davies, Amber Bollons and Rebecca Sansom who received prizes for their high attendance over 1 year and more. The morning culminated in a wonderful buffet and lots of photos to mark the end of the Year 11 examinations and moving into studying at Post 16. We wish all the Year 11 a wonderful summer holiday (after the Post 16 induction) and look forward to celebrating with them on August 25.  Congratulations to the following students who have achieved 100% attendance over this academic Year.

Well done again to Success who still holds onto the lead. Competition between Houses has been very close with only 0.39% between the lead and 4th place. Can another House catch and overtake Success, which has been in the lead for the whole school year so far? Anything is possible...
