House Presentation Day – 21 July 2016 Our annual awards and celebration event always takes place on the penultimate day of the school year. Students will be awarded a number of Faculty and special awards over the course of the day in recognition of the work ethic they have shown over the course of the whole school year. Teachers will be nominating five students per class for Faculty awards after the half-term break, so it’s not too late for students to make their mark! I would like to thank you all once again for the tremendous support that you have shown us since Easter. I trust that you enjoy a lovely holiday, whatever you have planned. Best wishes Richard Lord Progress Evening Review
As you are aware, we hold an annual progress evening for each year group.
This gives parents the opportunity to come in to school and speak to teachers about the progress their child is making and the learning that has been taking place in various lessons. In order to make these experiences as rewarding as possible, we would like your views on what we do well at these events but also how we can improve them in the future. We have devised a short questionnaire in which to collect your views and would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete it. Just follow this link: http://goo.gl/forms/t2dirEXxy6GQoIzK2 Thank you in advance for your views. Mr R Corner St John Ambulance Award
On Friday 20 May 2016 Logan Marriott (Year 11 Success House) received the County Priory Group Award for St John Ambulance Cambridgeshire in recognition of outstanding service to St John Ambulance. Logan has been with St John Ambulance for over four years. In those years he has been on many courses and duties to further his knowledge on all aspects of first aid.
Our congratulations go to Logan for this excellent achievement. Visit to Cambridge University
On Wednesday 11 May we took a small group of Year 9 students to Cambridge for a cultural experience with the opportunity to visit Cambridge University.
On arrival we headed to the Fitzwilliam Museum where we viewed paintings by Reynolds and Monet discussing the different styles used. The students got to handle some of the museum’s armour collection before an interactive art session, they worked on a self-portrait and mixed this with designing a piece of armour, producing some impressive pieces of work. Next stop was ADC theatre, this time in glorious sun, touring the back stage area and changing rooms. Students then participated in a drama workshop, exploring some different styles of acting. Throughout the day we were accompanied by four student ambassadors all in their final year of study at Cambridge University and this allowed the students to interact with them and the opportunity to ask them first hand of their experiences whilst studying. Rachel Patman Italian Exchange to Emilia Romagna
We departed from Stansted airport on the 3 May, at 8:45 am, meaning that we had to leave our homes at 5:00 am that day! We landed in Bologna and were picked up to go straight to our Italian school in Reggio Emilia, which we attended for the rest of the week.
We stayed with some of the students from a class in the school. When school ended we all went to the homes that we would be staying in for the next 5 days and met our Italian host families. The next day we went to Italian school from 8am to 1:30pm, we had a geography and history lesson. After that we took a double decker train to Bologna and did some sightseeing. It was fun! On the next day we went to the school and had and English and Italian. Then visited Parma and did some more sightseeing and shopping. The next day we visited a museum and had a guided tour of Reggio near the school and learnt about all the history it was very interesting. Then we went back to the school and had a delicious lunch there and listened to music and danced with our Italian classmates. On the Saturday we went to Gardaland, a really popular Theme park in Italy, and went on a ton of amazing rides! On the Sunday we said our goodbyes and sadly left Italy, even though we were all happy to be able to see our families again. Overall we had an amazing trip and was one of the best times we've ever had. Carys Taylor, Charlotte Cartwright, Krystal barker and Stefan Cozzetto Water in School
Research shows that many children do not drink enough water. Low fluid intake can lead to health problems and can affect concentration and learning. Experts recommend that children drink at least 6 – 8 glasses of water per day and more in hot weather and when active.
It therefore makes sense that children are encouraged to drink more water at school. Several years ago, we decided that, in addition to the normal drink facilities available at break and lunchtime, we would allow students to drink water during lesson time. For this scheme to be successful, we need to ensure minimum disruption to class routine and the following criteria must be adhered to: • Only water may be consumed – no squash, juices or fizzy drinks Many thanks for your continued support with this policy. Richard Lord May/June Half-Term Revision Sessions
Time flies by when you are working hard! It only seems five minutes ago that the first GCSE examination of the summer period began back on May 5 (English). Please note that after half-term Year 11 students will move onto a part time timetable where they only come in for lessons where either an examination or coursework is still to be completed. It is important that they sign in and out in the Sports Foyer and are in full uniform for both the attendance of their remaining lessons and examinations.
In an attempt to support the final paper for mathematics l students will be going home with a predicted paper 2 today. We encourage them to complete it over the weekend as best as possible in advance of the Maths booster sessions that take place next week.
Mr Walji / Mr Erwin Attendance
Success continues to hold the lead. All Houses are so close to our 96% target. It would be great to achieve this before the end of the school year! Let's keep those bugs at bay and attend school daily.
