This week I received wonderful news about a former student Jaden Harris. Jaden graduated from Ken Stimpson School last year and we celebrate her ongoing achievement of becoming a World Champion kick boxer. Please read the full story below. After sharing this with staff, I received an email stating that Jaden’s sister, Caitlyn, has secured as many sporting achievements this year which were equally amazing. Caitlyn has amassed 5 gold medals in the martial art of Kung Fu, leading her to qualify for the World Kung Fu championships.

I would welcome knowing more of these wonderful achievements, as it shows what talented students we have in our school.

New uniform

ChromaSports now have the new uniform in stock.  I am delighted with the number of students that are already selecting to move across to the shirt and tie, with optional blazer.  A reminder of the new uniform policy can be read by clicking on this link

ChromaSports have kindly donated a number of polo shirts in various sizes. If you feel your child could benefit from replacing their polo shirt during this term only, then please contact reception and leave a message for the relevant Student Support Officer that is linked to your child’s house.  In terms of the existing uniform, we will expect students to be in the correct attire.  Where shoes wear out, we will expect that they are replaced within a reasonable time frame. We will challenge incorrect uniform and will not lower our standards as we near the end of term. There is a need for standards to be consistently high as there are still 10 school weeks remaining.

Jaden left the sixth form last year to progress onto a high level accounting apprenticeship with MHA MacIntyre Hudson.  The Peterborough Telegraph has recently featured her achievements at the Battle of the North tournament in Northern Ireland, where Jaden represented the England BCKA team.  She won a "fistful of medals...  a gold medal in the Ladies Under 65kg light contact category, a silver in the Ladies points open weight section and completed the full set with a bronze in the Ladies Under 65kg points class". We wish Jaden continued success with her kickboxing and with her accounting career.

In order to support revision in English Language, we have posted home an outline of areas of strength and development from the most recent series of PPE examinations. We hope this will enable Year 11 students to target their revision on specific questions that will significantly improve their final grade in English Language.  It will also give parents an opportunity to understand the best areas to revise with their child and support them in reaching their full potential.

Students can find useful revision resources on Connect and in particular a booklet entitled ‘Revision for English Language Paper 1 and 2.’ This booklet will provide students with tasks relating to each question in the exam. 

The students have all been working exceptionally well at what can sometimes become a stressful time and we continue to congratulate their positive approach to lessons.

The PiXL Maths app will help students to identify their areas for development. Video tutorials and PowerPoints on the app will then help them better understand these topics. Students can find their PLCs by logging into the app, going into paper QLA, AQA and then typing WAVE NOV 2018 and using the tier they completed in the PPE. Students also have individualised booklets that have been printed after analysing their PPE papers.  

Students should have completed the revision resources they were given before Easter and need to bring their individual resources into school everyday. 

Maths academic catch up continues to run on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for all years. As well as all Maths staff taking revision sessions I am in 3U23 on each of these days, primarily helping students with areas they are struggling with on the PiXL Maths app. 

If students need equipment it can now be purchased using the school ParentPay system. Pencil cases with all essential equipment (pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener, protractor and compass) are available for £3.00 and scientific calculators for £7.00 each.

Please find attached week 11 of the extra questions that students can do at home with the support of parents, as mark schemes and examiners reports are also attached. These are split into two types of questions, one designed for foundation students aiming for a 4 or 5 and one for higher tier students aiming for grades 6 to 9.

Revision guides are still available in school at cost price, saving you more than 50% on the rrp. There are 3 books at £2.50 each and an answer book for £1. Please see your class teacher, Miss Harvey, or Mr Donnelly if you have paid for them through ParentPay.

The game started with Hampton on the front foot, keeping early possession of the ball. Then they made the possession count as they scored with the first meaning full attack, with a ball over the top causing confusion for the Ken Stimpson defence, and the Hampton forward coolly slotting it past Bradley to give Hampton the early lead. Not deterred by the early set back, the lads started to gain a foothold in the game creating a few openings, but then just before half time a swift counterattack saw the ball worked to Logan Carter, on the right wing, who fired past the Hampton keeper to bring us back level. The boys then quickly created two guilt edge chances, but failed to convert, hitting the Hampton keeper as oppose to the back of the net.

Not upset by this and with praise from the management team, the boys got on the front foot early in the second half, creating chances. Then 8 mins into the half saw a well worked attack, creating an opportunity for Finley Eze, who calmly fired past the keeper to put us 2-1 up.

The boys drew confidence from this and kept good possession of the ball and created more openings. Then in the 20th minute a low cross, across the Hampton goal area, caused confusion and went through the goal keepers hands, only to land at the feet of Bobby Ponsford who fired into the roof of the net. The lads kept it steady for the remainder of the half but a goal mouth scramble in the later seconds of the half saw Hampton pull one goal back.

In the end the boys ran out 3-2 winners and now face either Jack Hunt or Nene Park Academy in next weeks final at AMVC.

I would like to congratulate the boys for making it this far and wish them good luck for next weeks final.

Man of the Match - Logan Carter

This is the story of an elderly, retired and unhappily married man, who goes out one day to post a letter to a former female work colleague, who is dying of cancer and ends up walking the 500 miles to Berwick-upon-Tweed to see her. It's a book, you might say, about a journey in many senses of the word.

This month we have chosen two books: a novel by Emma Healey called 'Elizabeth is Missing' and a poetry book by Philip Larkin called 'The Whitsun Weddings'. We are meeting at The Blue Bell in Glinton at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 22 May.

• A 'Final Bite' session will be held the day before every exam from 3:20pm - 4:15pm in 1L07.
• Pre-school supported revision will be available for every morning exam (Chemistry 1 & 2 and Physics 2).
• Mr Walji is still running his sessions every Friday after school

Y10 students have had their end of year exams, giving them a taste of next summer. We will be holding catch-up exam sessions next week for students that were absent. While the information we will collect is important, the experience for Y10 students is invaluable. We were pleased to see how seriously these exams have been taken, and how excellent behaviour was throughout the process. Well done Y10! 

Y8 have been getting a taste of GCSE Science lessons this week and will hopefully have seen how the work they do in KS3 feeds directly into their examined course. Miss Farrell will be at the Y8 Pathways Evening to answer any questions about your future in Science.
