Message from the Principal
On Wednesday we hosted an evening for prospective parents and children, to hopefully welcome them into our school’s family.
A number of things made me so proud of our school. The first was the amazing effort from the staff to welcome our guests and show what we do every day. The second aspect was the number of students that willingly volunteered to give up the best part of their evening for the benefit of the school. These students and many more are the life blood and character that make our school. I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hundred plus students that felt they could willingly give up their time. On the theme of ‘new’, I wish to share a number of new staff profiles to help you get to know them. This week I will leave you to read the introductions from Mr Wilson, Second in Geography, Mr Connor (Teacher of English) and Ms De Lorenzi (Teacher of MFL).
Mr Wilson Ken Stimpson has always been a school that I had heard good things about. One warm May morning I made the leap and applied for an exciting job within the Humanities department. This was a big change for me after being at my last school for over 7 years and being a “part of the furniture”. It was weird being interviewed after so many years, but I knew it was the right time to move on to a new challenge and I got the job! So far, it has been an amazing experience and I am glad I made the move as this school invests in both the students and its staff to deliver the best for the community it serves. One piece of advice for my younger self is don’t be worried about change, change can bring new opportunities and goals. We all need to be reminded of that at times! I look forward to meeting parents and families as I settle in.
Mr Connor, Teacher of English Hello! I am a new English teacher at Ken Stimpson Community School. Naturally, I enjoy reading and my favourite book is probably John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. I’m actually a former student of Ken Stimpson myself and I was taught this text as our year 8 students still are today. The quality and enthusiasm of my teachers at the time, many of whom are still here, is what inspired me to try to replicate their passionate style of teaching and become a teacher. Apart from this, I love sport (especially football) and enjoy a well brewed cup of tea.
Miss De Lorenzi, Teacher of MFL I teach French and Italian in the MFL department at KSCS. I’ve always been interested in different languages and cultures and I’ve been studying them throughout my life. A new language is not only the bridge to reach another culture, but it is also the opportunity to widen the limits of our world, it helps to break mental and cultural schemes by showing a new way of looking at the world. What I particularly like about KSCS is its paradigm of inclusiveness and care for each student, as well as a constant collaboration between the staff members. My hope for the students is to see them seize the many opportunities that the school offers to them. Best wishesBryan Erwin Student of the Month
Each month faculties and departments around the school nominate one student for student of the month, this can be for a student who has particularly achieved well, been helpful, made fantastic progress, impeccable manners, shown a high effort level.

Last month I auditioned for 2018 Pantomime Peter Pan at The Key Theatre. I had to arrive early to get my number, these helped us to be identified by the casting team and the director as we went through the process. I was in a group of around sixty people, before we were split in half and sent different ways to rotate back through the activities. The whole thing was a lot of fun! Apparently, there were over five hundred auditioning in my age category, and they could only take thirty-six throughout every single category from age six to sixteen. When we were split, I was sent through to the dance category first, before measurement for costume, then singing, and improvised acting. Dance was mainly just testing our stamina. Our rehearsals only run for three weeks before almost a month straight of performances, so they had to make sure we could pick up intense choreography quickly and have the stamina to not burn out, as we're in for almost every night for three and a half hours after the school day. If I'm chosen to cover other parts, it means In rehearsal I have to learn eleven other tracks of the show as well as my own. This is really cool as you get to see other's characters, but it can be stressful if you have to switch mid-show! We were told who got in a few days later, and I was one of the only new people in the company to be chosen. I have been given twenty-seven performances, as well as the press and closing night. Holly Honeyman Attendance
Congratulations again goes to Integrity for maintaining the attendance lead. Our school attendance could be impoved by ensuring medical appointments are made outside of school time where possible. If Ill please supply medical documentation for any days ill after 2 days as per our school policy. "Every day counts!"
