Message from the Principal
A school week can contain a rainbow of events. Whilst the pot of gold may not have been found or reached, the experience and journey is just as colourful!
This week, we celebrated the half way point of our wonderful Chinese visitors who have integrated into life in England and our school. The video below and photos do not necessarily give justice to the way in which they have embraces a different culture and education system. Equally, I am proud of the students that act as buddies for the Chinese students. As a school we embrace this as it is an excellent way to show that despite our cultures, we are just human beings and need to understand cultures beyond our understandings. May I thank Mrs Ayre for her ongoing coordination of this project as it is so enriching for all parties involved. Progress Evenings May I thank all of you that have attended parents evening over the last half term. I am buoyed by the superb attendance for each of these events (89% for one House). May I thank all of you for the excellent feedback and please do not feel apologetic in reporting the areas for improvement. The future of the school relies upon a strong partnership; constructive, insightful feedback will have a big say in how we move forward. I look forward to meeting with you at the Year7 Progress Evening on Tuesday and Wednesday 8 June. Details to book appointments with your son/daughter’s subject teachers have already been sent out. To access the system go to kscs.parentseveningsystem.co.uk . If you've any difficulties please email parentsevening@kscs.org.uk. I am investigating the possibility of more subject evenings per year group and will work with all stakeholders in enabling this to happen in the new academic year. Revised Vertical Tutoring System This week your son/daughter will have an assembly to explain that as a school we are tweaking our very successful vertical tutoring system so it serves the students more beneficially moving forward. The revisions are as follows: The House names and colours will remain. From September, 2017:
The purpose of this is to provide even more focussed guidance at tutor time which is aged focussed. I am confident with the work of the Heads of House, Senior Leadership team and other key staff this will be a step forward for our students. Half term Revision schedule Please be aware that there will be a series of revision workshops provided by members of staff over half term to help and support your child in their forthcoming examinations. I wish to share this with you to encourage your child to attend as these top up sessions could make the difference in securing a higher grade. The sessions are listed below: Best wishesBryan Erwin This weeks Letters Home
Half Term Revision Sessions
Maths Revision
One down two to go, students should now be focusing on the calculator papers, paper 2 is thirteen days away with paper 3 five days after that. Please find attached the last two countdowns which students should be using, alongside Hegarty and other revision resources this will really make the difference to close the last few gaps on areas students still have issues with. Please find attached weeks 13 and 14 of the extra questions students can do at home with the support of parents as mark schemes and examiners reports are also attached. Next week I will continue to attach five topics that regularly appear on the calculator exams, there is also a Personal Learning Checklist so students can track what they feel they have mastered and what they need more help on. This can be used alongside Hegarty maths which has video tutorials to help students understand topics. For half term revision classes in maths please see the timetable. It is essential that students keep revising during half term with the intensive revision sessions put on my staff being focused on calculator questions and skills. Extra revision classes will run every Monday lunchtime in 3U22 for all year 11s Targeted revision classes for specific groups will take place after school as follows:

The Year 10s travelled to Yaxley for the Peterborough Schools Cup Final against Hampton, having won 5-3 after extra time against Neale Wade.
A lovely afternoon on Yaxley FC 3G playing surface saw Coach Hughes adopt a unorthodox tactic. Having explained to the team that it was vitally important that the opposition worry about us, not the other way, KSCS lined up in an attacking 4-3-3 formation. Dividends immediately paid off when Findley's long ball saw Bishop use his pace and slot past the opposition goalkeeper. 1-0 KSCS. Despite pressure from Hampton, another identical move saw Bishop once again put the ball past the goalkeeper, only for it to be superbly cleared off the line. Hampton once again applied the pressure, but the back four of Driscoll-Freeman, Akinsanya, Whybrow and James stood firm. The pace and movement of Bishop, Simpson and Findley ensured that Hampton didn't have it all their own way. With minutes remaining before half time, goalkeeper Scialla-Cooper was called into action a produced a top class save to deny Hampton. After a half time PEP talk the boys went out to do battle once more. The centre trio of Barben, Freestone and Britton knew they were going to find it tough but stuck to their jobs. Time after time Scialla Cooper produced saves that were very good quality. However Hampton managed to find a way to break KSCS's defence. A defensive error saw Hampton number 9 free on goal giving goalkeeper no chance, 1-1. Coach Hughes' then brought on Clarke to add height to an aerial battle that KSCS had been losing. This gave Hampton problems, and once again KSCS were rewarded for their hard work when Findley chased a long ball and panicked the defender into making a mistake, squaring the ball for Bishop to once again find the net. 2-1 KSCS. Hampton retaliated by pouring their guys forward, forcing a formation change of 4-4-2. Several times their forwards found a way past the impressive Scialla Cooper, however, both Whybrow and Driscoll-Freeman are both credited with goal line clearances. Once again defensive frailties saw the ball failed to be cleared and Hampton poached another one to equalize. With less than a minute to go, Hampton produced a stunning series of passes cutting up KSCS finishing with a wonderful finish, leaving the boys absolutely gutted and destroyed. Seconds later the full time whistle went, giving victory to Hampton 3-2. It was a fantastic effort by the boys of which one Coach Hughes' was very proud of the boys. Parents were invited into the changing room at the end to show the boys how proud we all were despite not getting the fairytale ending that we deserved. Maybe next year!!! Special mention must go to Miss Whybrow who superbly ran the line as an assistant referee as this allowed Coach Hughes' to concentrate on the game. Team: Bobby Scialla-Cooper, Kieran Driscoll-Freeman, Tayo Akinsanya, Aston Whybrow, Peter James, Seb Britton, James Barben, Pierro Freestone, Bradley Simpson, Zachary Findley, Ryan Bishop, Kyle Clarke, Callum Applegate, Harrison Skinner Mr Hughes Hydration
Over the last couple of days we have started to experience the good old British Summer. I would like to take this opportunity to communicate the following information to parents; During PE lessons, students have little cover for shade out on the field, and therefore should consider using Sun Tan Cream, and even bringing hats to help keep the sun off them. More importantly, there are an alarmingly high number of students who do not bring water bottles to their PE lessons. Keeping hydrated not only ensure good performance but is also a major defence against sunstroke. Please could you encouraged your children to bring water bottles daily but especially on PE days. We have the facilities for students to re fill these bottles. This is also a perfect time to confirm that fizzy drinks actually dehydrate students quicker and are not encouraged as a way of preventing dehydration. Mr Hughes Attendance

Congratulations to Aspire who continue to hold first place. Excellence are hot on your tail. So Houses need to ask students to help them by coming in every day. Please be considerate for our Year 11 and Post 16 students who are still doing exams. One day this will be you in the exam hall. I hope every student returns after the May half term refreshed and ready to work. The school year is whizzing by and we need to make the most of the time we have left of the term.
