"I just wanted to send a personal thank you to the staff and students that came yesterday to help out with the Mayor's Open Day. I have received several emails this morning from visitors commenting on how polite and helpful the children were. I think it's important for them to know how appreciative everyone was. I couldn't have managed on my own yesterday as it was very busy at times. They all did their bit and worked really hard. They are a credit to the school"

Graduation Day
"Wow", "Amazing" and "Stunning" were the opening three words that spurted out of my mouth when introducing the Year 11 Graduation morning on Tuesday! Despite the gloomy weather, the Year 11 students arrived looking spectacular and the morning was such a wonderful moment in time to celebrate the end of this phase of their academic career and to mark the beginning of another. Many of the students had 'clocked' between 750 and nearly a 1000 school days since arriving at KSCS in September 2012.

We celebrated the students achievements in many ways, including the prize draws for 97-99% attendance and 100% attendance over the last year. Congratulations to the winners and I hope you enjoy the small sample of photos from the morning which captures, for me, the spirit of our very proud tradition of acknowledging how much we value our students and the staff who have supported them.

Careers
My mission is to ensure that every student is aware of the career possibilities available to them and therefore make the connection with school and what they need to do to prepare for the next steps beyond school life. I wish to 'sign off' with a big thank you to the staff who supported our Year 10 student visit to one of the biggest careers fairs in the country last week. The students came back full of thoughts about where they may want to travel and this for me generates a real sense of purpose and highlights why this connection is vital.

During mountain biking they learnt a range of skills in order to tackle the various terrains and courses laid out.

In canoeing, students naturally got wet and participated in a range of games, including the one where they had to walk across all the canoes that were in a line on the water.

During high ropes students had to do the legendary leap of faith, jumping from a small square platform to the bar some distance away, as well as various other speed climbs.

Students also went on various mystery walks and of course participated in the "doom ravine" - Walking across a "river" on a very thin log.

The members of staff were awesome and really made the trip eventful for the students, and it was an absolute pleasure to see students of Ken Stimpson in an environment outside of school.

Mr Hughes' best moments were:  Seeing Miss Curtis covered in mud from head to toe; seeing the students run off to find the teachers in the biggest hide and seek game ever; and seeing Mr Billet walking over in the morning holding two cups of tea.

Mr Billitt:  I think Faith Braddock completing the Gladiator run in 37 seconds was a highlight as well as Luca's drama monologue for the 'talent show'.

Miss Curtis:  Highlight/funniest moment for me was Luca's cheering victory just before bailing into the mud on the "ravine of doom".

Miss Walker:  Personal highlight was: seeing the canoes wobbling on the water before tipping over completely, soaking them all!

All 19 students did a fantastic job making tea and coffee, serving food, clearing tables and assisting with the raffle. They also helped to make 40 fresh flower table decorations.  When the last guests had departed, the Mayor and Mayoress invited us all into the parlour for some food and drink followed by a visit to the Mayor’s Chamber.  Our students have deservedly received many compliments on their hard work and, despite some initial nerves, all enjoyed the experience immensely.
