Dance
The A Level Dance specification requires students to develop, demonstrate and articulate practical and theoretical knowledge, understanding and experience in many areas. During the course you will develop your technical and performance skills, studying the process and art of choreography and the interrelationship between the creation, presentation and viewing/appreciation of dance works. You will learn how to develop dance placed within an artistic and cultural context. You will study and analyse professional dance works and learn about the significance of these works whilst developing your use of subject specific terminology.
The A Level Dance course is made up of two components:
Component 1: Choreography and performance
Students will be asked to choreograph and perform a solo performance, a performance in a quartet and a group performance.
Component 2: Critical Appreciation
Students will need to demonstrate a knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of two set works: One compulsory set work within the compulsory area of study and one optional set work within the corresponding area of study from a choice of four.
Component 1
An external examiner visits the school between March and May. You will be examined in the second year of the course
Component 2
You will undertake a 2 1/2 hour written paper which is worth 50% of the A Level in your second year.
