Earlier this term, we held a mock assessment workshop for our Post-16 students, led by a representative from the Apprenticeship Support and Knowledge (ASK) Programme.

The workshop provided valuable insights into how employers use assessment centres, particularly for large and competitive schemes. Students gained an understanding of what to expect at an assessment centre and had the opportunity to participate in a mock activity similar to those they may encounter in real-life scenarios.

Earlier this month, the BAE Roadshow visited Ken Stimpson Academy to give Year 7 students an exciting insight into the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths), exploring the science behind AI. The students were amazed by the robotic dog!

The presentation showcased AI's ability to generate song lyrics, music, and accompanying videos. Robotic dog demonstrations included voice control, navigating a maze using LIDAR and sensors, and describing its surroundings. The team also demonstrated deep fakes by using an avatar of a team member and 'putting words in their mouth', teaching students to question what they're seeing and hearing online.

As part of our Safer February month, Nathaniel, representing the St Giles Trust, joined us to speak about growing up in an inner city and the vulnerability of young people being groomed into gangs. He discussed what young people should look out for, how to walk away and say no, and how to ask for help if they feel they're in a situation they want to escape.
