Message from the Principal
It was a delight to see so many parents, carers and students attend the Pathways to Success event on Wednesday evening.

The presentation will be posted onto the website viewable here.  I hope that you received the necessary information to be able to discuss with your son/daughter the four additional subjects that they would benefit from studying in Years 10 and 11.  I also wish to thank parents and students for being forthcoming in providing insightful  feedback to enable us to look into tweaking the pathways blocking. The next stage is an invite by Mr Walji (Assistant Principal) for you and your child to attend a short meeting with a member of the Leadership Team or Head of House to confirm the subjects.  Please watch out for this letter and I hope you will attend, to support your child in making the most informed choice about their subject preference.

Year 11 booster session schedule

In response to both students and parents asking about the after school Year 11 intervention, I have included below the schedule available to students:

E-Safety warning

I have been asked to pass on the following warning from the Child exploitation division of the Police.

On its website, MyLOL bills itself as the ‘#1 teen dating site in the US, Australia, UK and Canada’ and claims to have more than 300,000 members around the world. It invites users to meet ‘thousands of teenagers like you’ and then goes on to describe how users can ‘chat with members or privately with someone.’  Teenagers are encouraged to update a profile and share pictures.

Following advice from the Police and the Local Authority We would advise parents to check if the app is installed and being used by their child.  If it is installed, the Police would strongly urge parents to consider deleting the MyLOL app from their child’s device and block the website after concerns raised that it's being used by sexual predators.

Rugby Tournament
On the 1 of February 2017, the PE department and six Lower school students took themselves over to the Peterborough Rugby Club where they practiced and played with and against different schools, the three school involved where all asked to bring year 7’s and year 8’s.

Throughout the week Post 16 student Max Geldard went around the school recruiting for the tournament and was successful with those who attended, on the day the girls performed very well and reacted in a sensible manor when they had to be paired up with St John Fisher to play against Bushfield Academy, in the first game the “Reds” (Ken Stimpson) won when the score was 24-20 and on the second game there was a draw of 8 between the two teams.

On behalf of the PE department I would like to thank and congratulate all of the girls who were involved.

Attitude to Learning Connect Badge Update
We will for the rest of this term continue with awarding with a positive Attitude to Learning (ATL) badge to students.

The ATL badge will continue to be an automatic badge for each lesson for students.  The aim of the ATL badge was to reward student consistently for being punctual to lessons, having the correct equipment, listening to instructions, undertaking the lesson activities with good effort. May I emphasise the that the students need to illustrate the positive attitude to learning for the whole lesson.

The main change which started on Wednesday 1/2/17, is that we have removed the negative ATL badge.  This means that teaching staff who want to remove the positive ATL badge for a student, will select the reason why the students attitude to learning was not positive.  This will be visible to parents/carers within the students Connect timeline.

Unfortunately, there is no present central system, where we can remove the positive badge from a students connect timeline. May I thank all the parents who have made contact with us, for this adjustment to be made.

In addition the Connect Leaderboards for students and parent/carers external to the School Site will also be working by next week.

Attendance
"Some people succeed because they are destined, but most because they are determined"

Excellence have just squeezed into first place. Anything can happen this week to change these statistics. All Houses need to continue to push with the attendance to ensure we are in school as much as we can be.
