Message from the Principal
Mrs Wallace – baby boy
In the month when baby Jesus was born we have our own special birth! I am delighted to announce the arrival of baby Aadhi James Shah Wallace, son of Mr and Mrs Wallace (Acting Vice Principal) who was born on Saturday evening. I am pleased to note that he has adapted to his new life tremendously well; a measure of this is that he chose to be born after the football final whistle on Saturday afternoon. How considerate is that?

In all seriousness, may I extend my congratulations to Mrs Wallace and her newly extended family and wish them every joy together over the many years to follow.

John Lewis Carol Event

The Choir, as always, excelled themselves.  We had a crowd gathering on many occasions with numerous people commenting how long it had been since they had heard a school choir sing in such a manner. Caroline at John Lewis was also very complimentary.

On Saturday some members also performed at the Peterborough Christmas Fayre in Central Park where, again, we received many positive comments.

May I share with you the feedback received from a member of the public that took time to email me to congratulate the choir on their performance at John Lewis.

“I was in John Lewis, Peterborough on Friday 9th December while your school choir were singing, in store. They should be congratulated; the singing could be heard on all 3 floors of the store. I should add that I'm not a parent of any of your students, just a very impressed passer-by”.

Pre- Public Examination Year 11 results

On Friday 13 January we will be sending home the results of the PPE conducted by the year 11 students.

Parents Evenings Next Term

The next subject evenings/events in in January will be held on:

•    January 11 – Post16 subject evening

•    January 18 – Year 9 subject evening

•    January 25 – Parents Forum

Personal Safety

It is pleasing to see so many students using bicycles as their mode of transport.  However, I am receiving on a weekly basis concerns raised by members of the local area public about students not adhering to basic road safety.  Travelling on the opposite side of the road, with no lights in the dark is a recipe for an accident to happen.  I would be grateful if you could check that your child has lights and helmets, is aware of the dangers of cycling on pavements and on the wrong side of the road.

Christmas Hamper

Thank you to the students, staff and in particular, Mrs Bamber for organising the Christmas hampers for the elderly at Sutton Court. It was wonderful for the school to be part of the delivery and witness the students and elderly reactions to the gifts.

The residents were literally in awe with appreciation for the hampers they received and impressed by the huge efforts made by the students. Please pass on our gratitude to all involved.

Reminder about end of term arrangements!

Please be aware that we will end the school on Wednesday 21 December at 12.45 pm.  School starts back on Wednesday 4 January at the normal time for all students.

Finally, may I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.  Enjoy the time together and thank you for your support in ensuring the school continues to move forward in every way.

Best wishes

Christmas holiday work
The Science department will be sending every Y11 student home with a booklet to be completed over the holiday.

This is valuable exam practice which should take a minimum of two hours but probably more, as we expect students to research answers to the questions they don't know. We will be reviewing their work on our return in January. We appreciate that the Y11s have been working hard recently, but please help us to boost your child's progress by encouraging them to make time one day in the holiday fortnight. It will be worth it in the end! Please contact me if you have any questions at k.young@kscs.org.uk.

Thank you for your continued support.

Christmas Hamper Delivery
I am delighted to tell you that the delivery of the Christmas Hampers that our upper school tutor groups were decorating and filling were very gratefully received by the residents of Sutton Court Sheltered Housing Complex on Tuesday this week.
Giving Gifts

I must extend a great deal of thanks to the upper school tutors and students that threw themselves at this challenge, creating some real works of Art! We had everything from a reindeer to a gingerbread house built and the gifts inside the boxes were equally as heart felt. The enthusiasm and team work displayed was a wonderful thing to witness and be a part of.

Laura Griffen, Matthew Denton, Kalya Green and Rhianna Dunne were nominated to deliver the hampers with me on Tuesday and did a sterling job of gifting and chatting to the elderly. All four of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks for your help guys.

Text Santa Appeal
On Tuesday 20 December KSCS are proud to be supporting the Text Santa appeal. This ITV based appeal supports the work of three charities; Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children. Students and staff are being asked to pay just £1 to wear their favourite Christmas Jumpers and/or hat! Form Tutors are collecting these donations in advance of next Tuesday’s event in tutor time.

Participation in this event is entirely optional.  We hope that your son/daughter will enjoy taking part and thank you once again for your support in raising money for another worthy cause.

Times Tables Rock Stars is back!
The first week of the Times Tables competition for Year 7s is over. With over 75,000 times tables completed in a week by Year 7 it is fair to say that it was an incredible effort from every student who has taken part. Our current Rockstar Leaderboard has Connor Aubrey and Louis Freeman as the Ken Stimpson times table champions!

Demi Shilju, Jake Syddell, Owen Todd and Tamzin Smith were the close runners up. The Alfa side led by Louis Feeman managed a staggering 3,250 times tables! On the Delta side of the competition, Connor Aubrey managed an eye-watering 8,410 times tables in 7 days!

Well done to those two who will be receiving their individual prizes. WEEK 2 HAS BEGUN! Log into your account on your laptop, desktop, or tablet to earn your prizes!

Year 2 Multi Skills
Over the last two weeks we have welcomed year two students from our local feeder primary schools for the annual multi-skills festival.

The students took part in a range of activities that develop basic core skills such as movement, balance, throwing and catching. The students were lead round a circuit of activities lead by the year 10 sports leaders.

Year 2 multi skills

The students had a good time as there were plenty of red faces by the end and the students all had smiles on their faces. I would like to thank the sports leaders for their input into the festival making it a real success and the members of staff from the primary schools for supporting the festival.

Kenny’s Got Talent! - The Grand Final
Last night we hosted the grand final of “Kenny’s Got Talent”, this is a new initiative this year with the aim to showcase all the talents that our students have both in and out of school. Over 150 student worked hard to prepare performances with no teacher input before taking part in initial auditions over two weeks with 8 acts been placed into the final along with three staff acts. Every performance was of the highest quality with all year groups represented in front of three professional judges.

A Busy Month for Choir
I would like to take the opportunity to thank our school choir for their commitment and professionalism in what has been an extremely busy month for them. Before the end of term we will have undertaken a total of 12 performances both in and out of school and, indeed, both in and out of the school vicinity.

Over the last week alone they have represented the school within the John Lewis store entertaining lunchtime shoppers before taking part in the Peterborough Christmas Fayre in Central Park as well as two community performances around the Werrington area. In all cases the comments from those listening were ones of praise about the quality of the singing and the way they represented themselves, the school and, indeed, their families.

My thanks also go to all their families and friends for their support in enabling these events to take place. If you would like to hear us this Christmas our final public performance is this Sunday at 3.00pm at the Voyager Academy as guests of the Open Door Church in their annual Christmas Celebration.

On behalf of the choir and Performing Arts Faculty I would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and we look forward to welcoming you to all our events in 2017, more details of which will be announced in this newsletter as soon  as we have them.

Attendance
"The choices we make dictate the lives we lead" William Shakespeare

Aspire stay in the lead this week, we have had another drop in attendance in all Houses. We all need to work together to increase this. It is so important to understand that good attendance increases your chance of a good GCSE grade.
