KSCS Newsletter December 9th 2016

Message from the Principal
May I extend my thanks to those of you who attended either Year 11 subject or Year 7 Tutor Consultation evening this week. Parental engagement is a vital part of making your child succeed and the attendance figures strongly attest to this. Over 75% of parents attended the Year 11 subject evening and 75% attended the Year 7 Tutor Consultation Evening. I sincerely hope that the dialogue was purposeful and, without apology, addressed any shortfalls.

Parental support is possibly the most powerful ingredient in the success of your child’s future with us.  Likewise, if you feel there are areas for improvement and have not used the parent feedback forms on the evening then please email any comments  to pa@kscs.org.uk

The next subject evenings/events in the New Year will be held on:

  • January 11 Post16 subject evening
  • January 18 – Year 9 subject evening
  • February 1 – Year 9 Pathways to Success Evening
  • February 8 – Year 11 subject evening

In addition, all students have had their end of term report handed to them this week.  If you have an issues regarding your child’s progress then in the first instance, I recommend that you contact their subject teacher.

Following the trial of emailing the reports out to a select group, we will share more details about sending these out electronically in the New Year.

School Games Silver Award

The School Games Mark is recognition to schools for their commitment to and development of competition, school sport and physical education not just within the school but with local primary and other institutions on a regular basis. I am very pleased to share with you that through the efforts of Mr Gray (PE Teacher, School Sports Organiser) we have recently been awarded the silver award.  I look forward to reporting to you when we receive the gold award, which is the highest quality mark available.

Christmas

It is hard to escape the fact that Christmas is less than two weeks away.  However, it is a season whereby there is a lot going on – blink and you will miss it.

May I thank Mr Norman, the School Choir, staff, student helpers and equally, the contribution of the local primary schools for making last Friday afternoon an excellent Community Christmas concert.

KSCS Christmas Card 2017

I wish to share with you the creative efforts of our Art Ambassadors who have created the KSCS Christmas Community Card to be sent out this year.  I wish to congratulate Katie Beresford and Isabel Skinner in Year 7 for designing this year’s School Christmas card which is below.

A reminder that the canteen will be serving Christmas meals on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 December.   Finally, we will end the term on Wednesday 21 December at lunch time with the traditional end of term assembly.

Best wishes

The Ken Stimpson Community Family Choir
Do you have a wish to sing but have never had the opportunity?
Would you love to join a group and enjoy the health benefits of singing as well as make new friends?
Would you like to rehearse and perform a whole range of songs?

If the answer to any of these questions in yes then why not come along to our new community choir. Whether you think you can sing or not why not come and give it a go singing songs from the pop world and musical theatre alongside more traditional pieces in a relaxed, fun, setting.

Aspire stay in the lead this week, however sadly we have had a drop in attendance in all Houses with 110 pupils now below 90% attendance. We all need to re-focus to come into school. Lets try to increase this before Christmas!
