Message from the Principal
We all have been heartened by the uptake of Year 11 students and those from other year groups in our booster or enrichment programmes after school.
These included:
Standards and Expectations Stop Press: Werrington Car Park Please be assured that there is a plan to vocalise the significant concerns relating to this proposal; we will resist this for the good of everyone. Best wishesBryan Erwin Year 11 Unit 6 Revision
We have had a great first week of revision with year 11 students after school. Students have responded very positively to the new revision schedule this week. We would like to thank year 11 students for attending and our dedicated staff for giving their time so generously. We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents/carers that students are expected to attend from 3.15-4.15pm each day. We will be asking students for their feedback next week in order to provide the best possible support. We look forward to welcoming them to next weeks sessions. Uniform
We believe that having the highest possible standards and expectations is a key ingredient of success in any organisation. To ensure we continue to meet these expectations, we need simple processes that deliver consistent results.
Trainers remain one of the major sources of concern. We have sought medical advice as to any conditions that require trainers. We are also looking at providing shoes for students to borrow, whilst they wait for a broken pair to be replaced. Other key points:
Most importantly, we are not trying to catch and sanction anybody, we want everyone to be clear so that learning can commence without disruption. We are working on the basis that anybody that arrives to school in incorrect uniform will be deliberately defying school rules. Mr D Whales Choir Music-a-thon and Jumble Sale - Saturday 22 February
At Ken Stimpson we are extremely fortunate to have many fantastic musicians, none more so than our amazing school choir who represent us throughout the city and beyond. In July this year the choir and acapella group will be returning to perform on the stage at Disneyland Paris following an invitation based on previous performances in 2016 and 2018. Disneyland receive over 1000 applications every year, so to be asked back for a third time and to receive two performance spots is a huge honour and credit to the young people involved. A small group of parents run a fundraising committee to help with costs for the choir events, such as this. This year our main event is taking place on SATURDAY 22 FEBRUARY. This will take the form of a combined 12-hour sponsored ‘Music-a-thon’ featuring the choir, musicians from the school and friends from outside, performing non-stop from 8.30am to 8.30pm. Alongside this there will be a Jumble Sale with many second hand items of clothing, bric-a-brac and books etc, available at low prices, including some designer wear. We will also be serving refreshments throughout the day. In 2018 our 'Music-a-thon' and Craft Fayre raised in excess of £1000 and we are hoping to break that figure this year with your help. We would be grateful to receive donations for the jumble sale. This can include clean 'jumble' items (Clothes, Toys, Books) as well as Bric-a-Brac. If you are able to donate items please bring them into reception at the school who will pass them to us for storage until the actual day. Any items would be gratefully received. Unfortunately we are unable to accept Electrical items, Car Seats or Crash/Cycle helmets but would welcome anything else. If you are available on the 22nd why not pop along, enjoy some great music and take a browse through what we have to offer. Please see the below poster for more details. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Mr R Norman Is your child interested in being in our next school production: Disney’s “Aladdin"
We are looking for the next generation of Singers, Actors, Dancers, Technicians, Costume Designers, Set Designers, Backstage Helpers and Stage Crew to be involved in our next School Production; "Aladdin"(Based on the hit Disney film). Particularly we would like to hear from students in years 7-9. If your child is interested, they can sign up to take part using the form that will be in the Performing Arts corridor (Block 5) between Monday 20 January and Thursday 23 January or by e-mailing Mr. Norman on r.norman [at] kscs.org.uk.
School productions are a massive achievement that you will not forget, so why not get involved? Mr R Norman Lego League Competition
On Saturday 11 January 4 students who have been working incredibly hard on Wednesday's and Thursday's after school, took part in the Regional FIRST Lego League Competition at Park Air in Deeping. It was a day packed with robot competitions, project presentation in front of a panel of judges, quizzing from judges and other schools, assessing how they programmed and built their robot and observing how the team worked together. Richard Coric, Brandon Blake, Jakub Coric, Dovile Kirkairte had a fantastic day and were great representatives of the school, showing amazing teamwork, professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the day. They did not win the overall day, but they did win the trophy for most innovative presentation! I am incredibly proud of their perseverance and their resilience throughout the long day. We had a great time meeting the other teams and learning new skills. We are looking forward to preparing for the new tournament season and are always looking for new students to join the team. Miss E Farrell Eyes on the Prize at UCP
Year 8 students spent a couple of hours at UCP for an "Eyes on the Prize" workshop. They had a presentation in the lecture theatre where they learned about careers which need a degree, that there are courses to suit all interests and a typical day in the life of a university student.
