Message from the Principal
Congratulations to the Year 11 students that are undertaking their final Pre Public Examinations (PPE’s).
We are using this as a formal assessment to gauge what aspects of their GCSE subjects need fine tuning and to carefully plan so the limited amount of time between now and the start of the public examinations (12 school weeks) is maximised to gain success. The same applies for the Post16 students who will start their PPE’s straight after half term. This week we had a Local Authority planned review. An experienced former HMI, a practising Ofsted lead and two experienced colleagues tested the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes and the leadership capacity of the school. I am delighted to report to you some of the feedback shared to me.
Bryan Erwin Year 7 Insight Project Kick Off
The Insight Discover Project is run by Cambridge University and involves working with students to familiarise them with University life and help them build on the various skills they learn whilst at school, such as persuasive writing, communication, creativity etc.
On Thursday 23rd January our new Year 7 Insight Group took a trip to Cambridge University to be introduced to their first project. Our students had the opportunity of meeting their mentors, learning a little about University life and visiting the local Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology to find some inspiration for their upcoming project! Miss S Kingston Year 11 Prom 2020
The Year 11 Prom is scheduled to take place on Thursday 2 July 2020 at The Marriott Hotel. The deadline for parents to pay their £10 deposits is next Friday (14 February).
Currently we have had just 21 students pay the deposit. I will need to put down a sizeable deposit with The Marriott over half term and unless we have at least 50 students paying their deposits, I will need to cancel this year's Prom due to lack of demand. This would be incredibly disappointing and I sincerely hope there are more students who want to attend this year's event. I have organised the Year 11 Prom for several years now and it is always a real highlight of the school year and a fitting send off to Year 11's time at the school. Additional letters have been distributed this week and payments can be made in cash or via ParentPay. The remaining £30 balance is due by Friday 27 March 2020. Mr K Abbott Well-being
The week of 3rd - 9th February was Children's Mental Health week and the theme, chosen by Place2Be, was 'Find your Brave'.
The key message is that asking for help is not only brave, but also a good way to stay mentally healthy or to recover and manage mental ill-health. The foundation want to help you to encourage children and young people to 'Find their Brave' by helping them to understand, protect and sustain their mental health. As a result they have two free guides; one for parents and carers and one for pupils and we are pleased to share these with you. Well Being Team |
