Message from the Principal
Happy New Year! It was very pleasing to see so many smiling faces back on Thursday. I would like to share the good news that Mrs Stoker (Teacher of Science) gave birth to a baby boy over the holidays. I am sure that you would join me in wishing Mrs Stoker and her newly extended family every happiness.

With less than 80 school days to the first public examinations, we would like to share with students and yourselves how Year 11 and Post16 students are attempting to reach and exceed their targets. Following the first round of Pre-Public Examinations, Post16 students will now be receiving detailed feedback on the outcome of their efforts in these examinations. Year 11 students have already received their feedback and this will be shared with them as a percentage of the overall score rather than a grade. More importantly, we wish to focus on how students can improve their responses to specific questions where they are not yet meeting or exceeding their target grades.

Looking immediately ahead

On Tuesday 16 January the first of the 2018 calendared progress evenings takes place. This is the Year 10 progress evening and will run from 4 -7pm. I trust you will have received details of this earlier in the week and many parents have already made appointments with each of their child's Year 10 teachers. If not, may I respectfully remind you to do so. If you have not received the letter or text, then you can book an appointment with your son/daughter's teachers through the school's online appointment booking system. Please click here to access it.

Year 9 Pathways Evening - important date

If you have a child in Year 9, then we will be pleased to welcome you on Tuesday 6 February from 4 -7pm to the Year 9 Pathways Evening. Letters will be sent out shortly.

Feedback from our extremely successful Young Enterprise group "Dynasty" - Winners of 'Best Trade Stand' at the St Ives Trade Fair

On Saturday 16 December Mr Abbott and seven members of Dynasty headed to the market town of St Ives in Cambridgeshire to take part in their first Young Enterprise Trade Fair. The day coincided with the St Ives Christmas market and the students were trading from a church hall just off the High Street. The day proved a very successful introduction to selling to the general public with over £200 in sales made. The team did so well they were awarded a prize for Best Trade Stand which we hope will be the first of many awards the team pick up this year. Their success at St Ives followed the team's well attended Christmas Disco on Friday 15 December. The two discos organised by Dynasty have helped raised the capital to fund Dynasty's main product - a series of children's activity books based on the primary history curriculum. The team are looking to publish their first book - the Romans - early in 2018. Watch this space...

Public Consultation - School new build proposal for Autumn 2019

After many months of work, I wish to announce that on Tuesday 23 January from 3.30 - 7pm a public consultation will begin on the design proposals to develop a brand new extension to the school, with details of the planning application. It will be held in the school assembly hall. It brings some very exciting opportunities and as a parent/local resident you may have questions about the development. A team of architects, local authority representatives, myself and Governors will be on hand to share these exciting designs and answer any questions that may be raised on the evening.

Best wishes

Attendance
"High attendance = more learning opportunities, more qualifications and more choice"
attendance

Aspire hang on to first place this week. However we have had a drop in attendance for all Houses, due to the high number of illnesses. We understand that sometimes this can't be helped. The following guidelines from our policy are there to aid you when trying to decide whether to send the student to school: For sickness, students may return 24 hours after the last sickness. For flu, please return when the student’s temperature is normal. If absent for more than 2 days we will need a document from a medical professional. We can hold medication at school, with the appropriate form from Admin. We strive to ensure that every lesson counts.
