Message from the Principal
How green are your fingers? For a number of years Mrs Ayre from KSCS and staff from the Froglife Project have been using thier green fingers by working in the local community to learn from the outdoors.

In recognition of this, some of our staff and students were on Gardeners' World recently for their work on the Froglife project! Click here to watch! (iPlayer login required, click to around 25 minutes in to find out more about what they get up to).

If you are a parent of a child in Year 11 then I warmly invite you to our Post16 Opportunities Evening on Tuesday 7 November starting at 6pm. I believe it will be a very informative evening and I urge both you and your son/daughter to attend, even if they are thinking of studying elsewhere. The quality of courses that we have on offer and the ability to benchmark against other sixth forms in the city is well worth investigating, especially as we are rated in the top 25% in the country in terms of student progress. I believe you will appreciate the balanced information that will be provided, not just by our own institution but by other providers as well. I hope to welcome as many of you as possible next Tuesday evening.

Thank you for supporting us in keeping the uniform standard very high. Could I remind all parents/carers that whilst we are accepting of coats that keep students warm and dry, we do not allow track suit tops or hoodies as an outer garment.

Attached to this newsletter are the timetables for the forthcoming Year 11 and 12 pre-public examinations (PPEs) that will be taking place over the next half term. We stopped naming these examinations 'mocks' or 'internals' as we want every student to understand that they serve as a benchmark on what they have secured and what they have not yet mastered.

To prepare effectively for these PPEs a growth mind-set philosophy is vital. A true reflection of your child's ability provides a fantastic snapshot of what they can do and what they genuinely need. This will enable us to provide support for them in what they should master in the 100 days left until the public examinations start in May.

Finally, I wish to acknowledge the work of Year 9 student; Richard Coric, who has begun to master Latin as part of the many extracurricular activities we undertake. Miss Walker will explain in more detail below, but it is always heartening to share publicly the positive achievements of students. Well done Richard!

Best wishes

Latin Club
This is an excellent piece of work submitted by Richard Coric for Latin Club.

He has put an outstanding amount of effort into it and his dedication to learning is inspiring.  Richard is hoping to achieve an award for his Latin work this year as part of the Cambridge Latin Course.

Sportshall Athletics
Before half term the PE Faculty ran the annual Sportshall athletics competition for year 7 and 8.

Last half of term, students have been practicing the various disciplines in preparation for the event as part of their Physical Education lessons. The students selected the events they wanted to compete in. The events incorporated basic core skills such as Running, Jumping and throwing. The students competed in their houses against each other in the events.

I would like to thank the sports leaders, for the tremendous job in running/officiating the events. Without their support, events like this cannot run. There were numerous highlights on the track. The event culminated in a very competitive last race for both boys and girls in the skill relay races. When the events were completed this was the leader board.

Shoebox Appeal
Myself and fellow Year 13 students are running the Shoebox Appeal at Ken Stimpson.
shoebox

This is when you get a shoebox and fill it with gifts for children who are less fortunate than ourselves for Christmas.  Each student would have had an email sent out to them informing them about how to do this and posters are displayed around school.  After all it is the festival of giving.  Act quickly all shoeboxes have to be handed in with the set requirements by the 18th November.

Match Report
On a cold, crispy Tuesday evening the Year 7 football team went up against a very able opposition.

Due to the darker evenings it meant that it was a very rushed warm up, leading to Ken Stimpsons GK making multiple great saves keeping his team in the game. After 15 minutes of good football, the year 7 boys attacked down the wing and Jamie Graham finished of a well organised goal making it 1-0 to Ken Stimpson. Ken Stimpson continued to play good football but lost focus for a short period of time meaning that TDA quickly capitalised on this scoring a great goal just before half time. Ken Stimpson went into the half time break undeservingly drawing 1-1.

The whistle went for the start of the second half with a much uplifted performance from KSCS leading to another superb individual goal from Jamie Graham making him currently en route for a hat trick. With the score at 2-2 and both teams playing some great football, substitutions were made from both teams meaning the shape of both teams started to change leading to more open football to come. Some confusion appeared to be taking place within the KSCS defence which led to TDA quickly scoring two well finished goals. This meant that Ken Stimpson were now losing 4-2 with only 10 minutes to go.

Within the final 10 of the game is when Ken Stimpson boys played their best football and had a disallowed goal which may have required goal line technology. Even with a disallowed goal this didn’t stop their motivation to score, with Owen Hill scoring a great solo goal within the last few seconds of the game to leave the final score sitting at 4-3 to TDA.

Man of Match was Taylor Knight due to a stand out performance in goal making multiple outstanding saves!

A great game from both teams!

Final Score 4-3 to TDA
