Ken Stimpson Community School - Newsletter 13/10/2017
Message from the Principal
Feedback is a vital part of the development of any school.
This half term we have been listening to students’ opinions on the quality of the catering and through their suggestions we are looking to make some changes. We will be working through a list of up to 10 new ideas- to vary what is on offer, including a Post16 dedicated coffee and snack bar which would serve food throughout the school day. Some of the excellent food provision currently on offer at both break 1 and break 2 can be seen below. The student well-being group has shared with me their ideas to help promote support for anxiety and well-being of students. In response to these two aspects, here are links to help you register for Parent Pay (if you have not already done this) and for Microsoft Office. To register for parent pay, please email your details to parentpay [at] kscs.org.uk For microsoft office, log in here (Sign in with your school log in, and click download office 365). Next half term the Student Council will meet and I look forward to listening and putting into action anything that will help the school and the students. Finally, on Tuesday 17 October, I look forward to seeing many of the Year 11 parents/carers at their first subject evening of the year. Once again it was feedback from parent/carers, who asked for an additional subject evening, that led to the implementation of this for the majority of year groups. If you have not already made your appointments then please use this link to sign up as demand has been high. Best wishesBryan Erwin New Staff Profile
Ciao and bonjour parents and students!
I am a new French and Italian teacher here at Ken Stimpson. One reason I was drawn to the school was that the department teaches Italian which is very rare. I felt it would be a waste not to pursue this language and I really wanted to make a difference here. I am a language enthusiast and have always been really keen to share my passion with others. I have really enjoyed my first few weeks at KSCS and have met some great students and budding linguists. I hope to get involved with some trips during the year and to help my students to grow as young people and to improve their language skills. Miss Beckingham Year 7 Football Report
This week the year 7’s played their first match of the season against Arthur Mellows at Ken Stimpson. They have been training hard on a Thursday after school and this was their first test of the season in a local derby.
The game did not start particularly well as the lads found themselves 1 – 0 down after the opening few minutes of the game. The lads calmed themselves down started to get possession of the ball and scored the equalising goal through Riley Green. Then straight from the kick off the boys lost their concentration and Arthur Mellows number 9 helped himself to, two quick successive goals. If it was not for the brilliance of Taylor Knight in goal, the score line could have been worse going into half time. At half time there were a few tactical changes from the management staff to the back 4 and the boys held their own in the first 20 minutes of the second half creating some decent openings. Then on the 20-minute mark Riley went on a Messi like run through the Arthur Mellows back four only to be denied by a great save from the keeper. Arthur Mellows made a few tactical changes bringing back on their star man who helped himself to, two more goals that lead the team to a 5-1 defeat. Man of the match: Taylor Knight for his De Gea like performance in goal. I would also like to thank our match officials for the game Marc Humphrey’s in the middle and expertly assisted on the line by Jake Crowson and Aston Whybrow. With the new academic year one half term in students should have found their feet and all know their targets for the end of year. To help students reach and even exceed these we subscribe to a number of online resources students can use both in school and at home to improve their Mathematics.
We look forward to working with you and your child through this journey at school. Mr Donnelly Attendance

Aspire stay in the lead this week, but the other Houses are getting very close to catching them. Only a few weeks to go until October half term, so let us all work together to make a good impact on our attendance. What's happening at KSCS?
